Miller Trucking, a transportation company based in Redding and Willows, CA, has been in operation for over 25 years. Recently, owner Nathan Tomasini expanded the business by acquiring a long-established trucking operation, integrating its fleet and maintenance practices. Running 18 trucks of various models including Volvo and Paccar with Cummins and Detroit engines, the company specializes in dry van and reefer transportation, moving critical cargo such as insulation, ice and agricultural goods. With a diverse customer base across the vital Californian market, Miller Trucking must ensure every truck remains reliable, efficient and cost-effective so they can stay on the road for longer.

Miller Trucking’s previous fleet maintenance approach relied on traditional SAE 15W-40 oils, with oil drain intervals capped at 20,000 miles. While this method had worked for years, Nathan knew there had to be a better way to extend vehicle life, reduce costs and increase uptime. With a mix of aging trucks, some exceeding 500,000 miles, optimizing maintenance became even more critical.
The business had experimented with various oils in the past in an effort to push service intervals further. However, it wasn’t until Valley Pacific Petroleum Service, authorized distributor for Petro-Canada Lubricants, an HF Sinclair brand, introduced the DURON Challenge that a real breakthrough was made.
Greg Fee, Territory Manager at Valley Pacific, worked closely with Nathan and his team, listening to their needs and pain points, and proposed DURON UHP 10W-40 as a high performance alternative. The approach was methodical: starting with two test trucks, oil sampling was conducted at 20,000, 30,000 and 40,000 miles. The results consistently showed outstanding oil performance and engine protection.
When one truck exceeded 50,000 miles on the same oil change, Nathan anticipated complications, but the oil analysis report told a different story. The oil remained in excellent condition, with no performance degradation. Encouraged by the findings, Miller Trucking systematically extended oil drain intervals across the fleet, proving that switching to DURON UHP 10W-40 was a game-changing decision.
LOOKING AHEAD
Based on these impressive results, Miller Trucking is fully committed to DURON UHP 10W-40 across its entire fleet. With a newfound confidence in oil performance and extended drain intervals, Nathan and his team are now exploring the possibility of pushing some trucks beyond 50,000 miles. Currently using other Petro-Canada Lubricants products in their fleet, the company knows there is more value and efficiency to be gained.
“Seeing is believing. We let the testing do the talking and the savings spoke for themselves. You pay a little more upfront, but you get it back tenfold.”
Miller Trucking’s partnership with Valley Pacific and Petro-Canada Lubricants has redefined its approach to fleet maintenance, proving that with the right oil and expertise, businesses can achieve efficiency, cost savings and peace of mind.
“As someone who understands the realities of trucking, I know how important reliability and cost efficiency are. The DURON Challenge isn’t just about proving a product, it’s about proving what’s possible. Miller Trucking’s journey is a testament to the power of strategic maintenance and I’m proud to have helped them unlock these savings.”
