Top Ten Position for Hinchcliffe in Iowa

Jul 11, 2016

Petro-Canada Lubricants sponsored driver, James Hinchcliffe, has edged his way into a top ten finish at the Iowa Corn 300 Indy Car race.

A technical issue during qualifying saw Hinchcliffe start in last position but by lap three he had gained four spots and was in 18th position. Following several good pit stops by the Arrow Electronics crew, in addition to being waived around a couple of full-course yellows, Hinchcliffe pushed forward into the top ten, where he remained for the final 50 laps of the race.

"I think we can be pretty pleased with our performance," said Hinchcliffe. "To start last in the field and end up in the top ten without really any lucky breaks or lucky yellows is no small feat. Big credit to the No. 5 crew and everybody on the Arrow Electronics team."

Off the track, Petro-Canada America Lubricants, along with Valley Distributing, hosted corporate guests where they were treated to pit and paddock access in addition to a Q&A and photo session with James.

The Verizon IndyCar Series now heads north for the Honda Indy Toronto, which will mark a significant home race for James and sponsors Petro-Canada Lubricants. Hinchcliffe, a native of Oakville, Ontario will participate in activities with Petro-Canada Lubricants at their Lubricants Centre and corporate headquarters, as well as hosting executives, employees, and customers at the Exhibition Place circuit.

"Many drivers don’t get the chance to race in their home city and I feel very fortunate to not only be able to race in my home country, but city as well. This race means a lot to me as it was the one that got my hooked on racing after going with my Dad when I was young. Having a Canadian company backing me during this race is also great, I am very proud of our partnership with Petro-Canada Lubricants and really look forward to everything they have planned, especially their team coming out to the track!"

Howard McIntyre, vice president, Lubricants, commented: "It is a real demonstration of James’ skill that he pulled back from last position to finish in the top ten, and we are very proud of his performance."

"The next race brings James to Toronto, where he has the home advantage and we are all looking forward to it. We are sure that James will show what a strong Canadian partnership can achieve and wish him the very best of luck."
