“In order to stay on top of things, our strategy is preventative maintenance, but that’s not always possible because of our uptime,” says Tim Briggs, Mill Manager, J. W. Jones Lumber Company, Inc. “We run four ten-hour shifts and an eight-hour shift, so maintenance is a challenge at times. If we do have a breakdown, we handle it as quickly as we can and divert the process line a little bit elsewhere if possible, so that we can continue production.” With mill productivity at stake, shutdown avoidance is in the best interests of the company. That is why preventative maintenance is so important. “If we have to shut down, we lose production time,” explains Briggs. “So sometimes, we need to schedule additional production time in order to make that back up and meet our targets.” Because uptime is so important in sawmill operations, Briggs and his team needed reliable saw guide oil for the lumber company’s equipment.
“After doing some checking into some of the products on the market, Potter Oil Company convinced us that PETROGLIDE 100 would do a good job – equal to or better than our previous oil. So, we decided that we would make the change to PETROGLIDE.” “We use PETROGLIDE 100 on our three-saw guided optimized edger and our curve-sawing gang, which has 72 saws. Between the two machines, on average we use approximately 500 gallons (1,895 litres) of PETROGLIDE per month; about 75% of it going to the curve-sawing gang.”
“The guys in the saw shop tell me that PETROGLIDE provides a very, very fine film lubrication for the guides and saws, but not too much, which the guys in the saw shop appreciate. Once mixed with water, the PETROGLIDE oil mists to the saws and guides, leaving a very good coat. It’s not hard for the guys in the saw shop to remove it, but there’s just enough tackiness to keep that lubrication between the guides and the saws.” “With PETROGLIDE, the biggest key is what it’s doing for the life of our saws; we’re very satisfied with the life PETROGLIDE is providing for our saws.” PETROGLIDE saw guide oils are specially designed and tested for modern multi-blade, gang saws and edgers. They are formulated to provide optimum tackiness and reduced friction for increased recovery rates and sawmill productivity. PETROGLIDE starts with a pure advantage in quality and performance.
