To achieve design breakthroughs, MGF studied each compressor component with fresh eyes. Special attention was paid to developing the next generation of screw compressor. The increased power output of this new design required a lubricant that could manage heavier loads.

“We have reviewed many different kinds of lubricants available on the market,” says Gabriele Fiani, MGF’s Technical Manager. “We did this in order to find the best products for our needs and to evaluate the products on the market used by our competitors.”

Working with Petro-Canada Europe, Gabriele assessed several different products. Based on MGF’s requirements, Petro-Canada’s COMPRO XL-S 46 proved to be the best compressor fluid for the application. Petro-Canada’s COMPRO XL-S Compressor Fluid is a premium quality lubricant specifically designed to extend fluid service life in rotary screw air compressor applications. With excellent resistance to oxidative breakdown, COMPRO XL-S can provide up to 8,000 hours or one year of continuous service (85°C discharge temperature).

Petro-Canada’s COMPRO XL-S 46 successfully met all of the needs of MGF’s customers, avoiding excessive wear, oxidation and varnish formation. Performance met the high standards set by the company. “We’ve increased our production range to include high-powered compressors to better meet our customers’ needs, and Petro -Canada’s COMPRO XL-S 46 is the perfect complement to our service requirements,” says Gabriele. It’s now more than two years since MGF began using Petro-Canada’s COMPRO XL-S 46 in its compressors. The transition has been so successful, MGF has created a Technical Service program that centres on the performance of COMPRO XL-S 46 in all its customers’ compressors. The positive response has been verified through surveys and an increase in the preventative maintenance agreements with customers. “Our compressors are known to be very quiet, effective and reliable, thanks to our excellent technical service, but also to the excellent product design of Petro-Canada’s COMPRO XL-S 46.”
